Ongoing Research

In current work, I am exploring labyrinths to help connect with viewers in a more profound way. These pathways, with their winding forms, resonate deeply with my ongoing explorations of mindfulness, ritual, and the duality of stillness and movement. My intention is to create installations and environments that viewers can walk through and become a part of the work.

Nature plays a significant role in shaping this work. Labyrinths reflect organic patterns often found in the natural world, such as the meandering lines of rivers or the worn trails through forests (my childhood in the PNW was shaped by these). For outdoor installations, I envision natural materials like stone and wood, while indoor spaces will feature casted objects and markings that embody my personal creative process. This approach transforms how viewers experience art, making it an active, meditative exploration rather than a passive observation.

This current investigation builds upon my earlier exhibition, "Stillness in Motion," which laid the groundwork for this new project. In that body of work, I focused on the act of repetition and layering to create a meditative environment, encouraging reflection on emotional complexities. Many visitors to my last solo exhibition told me they did yoga, meditation, and Tai Chi in the space with my art. Transitioning towards labyrinths represents a significant evolution in my practice.  My hope is that by creating these installations, I can invite visitors to engage in the work in a somatic way.
